Getting around
It takes 40 minutes to drive from Reykjanesbær to the center of Reykjavík on the dual lane highway, Reykjanesbraut, which is well lit and always accessible.
Bus route 55 runs regularly to and from the capital region with a stop in Fjörður, Hafnarfjörður.
There is also a regular bus service between the municipalities of Reykjanesbær, Suðurnesjabær and Grindavík.
Due to their close proximity to Keflavík International Airport, locals in Reykjanesbær say that they are only five minutes away from the rest of the world.
For a scenic experience, travel along Suðurstrandarvegur, the road which follows the coastline east of Grindavík. Traffic along this route is usually light and the landscape here is breathtaking. Close to Grindavík you can visit the newly formed lava rivers created by the Fagradalsfjall eruption in 2021. Further on, it is possible to reach Hafnarfjöður via Kleifarvatn, Seltún and Krýsuvík, three areas of astonishing geothermal interest.
