Boat museum of Gríms Karlssonar
The Boat museum of Grímur Karlsson is closed temporarily due to construction.
It is appropriate to visit Captain Grímur Karlsson’s Boat Museum when looking at a visit to our old seaport.
At Duus Museum you can see a total of 120 ships from the Icelandic fleet, although not all of them are on display at the same time.
Most of the models are based on ships that were built in Iceland or imported to Iceland in the first decades after the Second World War.
Grímur Karlsson was a captain in Njarðvík for a long time but began to build his boat models out of passion after he left for sea. He then collected sources about each ship and followed the models.
The exhibition in Duushúsar traces the development of boats in Iceland from the year 1860 to the present day. The boats are connected to the fishing industry with a number of pictures and memorabilia from the Reykjanesbær Regional Museum.
Grimur died in 2017, had eighties.
